Adults 18 years, of age and over: Take 1 capsule daily for at least 7 days and up to 14 days.

Do not take for more than 14 days unless directed by a doctor.
USAGE ADVICE The bottle contains a sealed container with silica gel desiccant. Keep the bottle tightly closed to protect from moisture.

A new report shows that many Americans have a problem with the over-the-counter version of, a popular drug used to treat heartburn and other stomach conditions.
The report, from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, provides an in-depth look into the issue, including recommendations on how to make it more affordable, how to reduce the cost of the prescription, and what consumers can do to help make this medication affordable.
The study, led by Dr. David M. Heydtman of the Cleveland Clinic, reports that over-the-counter (OTC) prescription drugs like Nexium (esomeprazole) are one of the most widely used drugs for treating stomach problems. In recent years, however, the popularity of OTC versions has also become increasingly apparent.
In June 2013, the FDA approved the first OTC version of Nexium for the treatment of heartburn. But, the study was published in the July issue of theJournal of the American Medical Association.
The study, published in theprovides new evidence and suggests that patients with heartburn and other stomach problems can take OTC versions of these drugs without the side effects.
In addition, the study also showed that patients who use OTC versions of Nexium for heartburn are more likely to have a history of heartburn.
The study, "Nexium: Prescription Costing and Safety Evaluations in the Era of Prescription Drug Availability," concluded that the problem with prescription versions of Nexium is that the drug is available over the counter, and consumers have little or no idea of how to use it properly.
The authors of the study, from the Department of Economics at the University of Cincinnati, said that their findings are a "major step forward" for consumers in making the drug more affordable.
"I think consumers can make the most informed decisions about the use of prescription drugs and the benefits they might enjoy," said Dr. Heydtman. "We are making important strides in the field of health care."
The study also found that Americans are more likely to buy OTC versions of the drug if they have a prescription for it from a doctor. And, the report concludes that "over-the-counter (OTC) versions of Nexium are less likely to have adverse drug effects than prescription alternatives."
In addition to the study, the OTC version of Nexium (esomeprazole) was also included in the analysis.
